You can select the check box to turn this back on any time. To enable dark mode, navigate to Settings > Personalization > Colors, then open the drop-down menu for 'Choose your color' and pick Dark. In Display settings, select Brightness, then clear the Help improve battery by optimizing the content shown and brightness check box. You may need to look for the properties in control panel. Select the Start button, then enter settings. Setting it too low will darken the image and reduce contrast. Much like brightness, setting it too high will cause brighter images to 'clip,' which is similar to crushing. In HDR, a sun shining through the forest will really pop against the shady foreground, or a campfire. The contrast setting is very similar to the brightness setting, but it affects the brighter parts of the image rather than the darker parts. It shouldn't be too hard to find, even if it isn't in the same place on your machine. In HDR, bright highlights can be 1,000 nits or more, depending on the capabilities of your TV. The exact layout of Intel's options may vary from system to system, but on my machine: In this system, the LED element blinking time is adjusted to control the display brightness extending the time that its on makes it brighter, and extending the time that its off makes it darker. You could adjust Gamma/ Brightness and even color correction, either in Windows settings, monitor settings, or the Graphics card Settings Panel. Select the Network icon on the right side of the taskbar, and then move the Brightness slider to adjust the brightness. If you dislike this feature, it can be disabled (or adjusted) it in the settings for your graphics card. So yes, this is a feature, unfortunately this means either dealing with the effect, or forfeiting the power savings it produces. I think some games are too bright though, like GTA 5 which looks like shit on default settings but on 0 brightness looks way better and more realistic, same goes for RDR2, the dark is meant to be dark, its just games having unrealistic insufficient lighting.

Unfortunately this can be annoying if important parts of the UI are light colors (like Chrome), or when dealing with highly visual applications (Photoshop, Media, etc) where changes to brightness have a negative effect on visual fidelity. This is the effect of either Intel's "Display Power Saving Technology" or AMD's "Vari-Bright" feature, the intent is to reduce power usage by reducing brightness when you look at dark images (which ostensibly would not need to be back lit so much).
